Hello fellow blues lovers!

John and I love the blues also! We have been to blues festivals on the Isle of Wight a few times. This is not the famous Isle of Wight Blues Festival, but they are small, intimate affairs with only 150 people. It is like going to adult summer camp. We stay in rooms onsite, and the weekend ticket includes meals and lots of music. Since the venue is on the Isle, the musicians stay onsite also and mingle (for example, lawn bowling, swimming, beach walking, and mini golf) with everyone. We only know about these festivals because we have friends in England who go to them all the time. The bands play original music, but they are highly influenced by our blues musicians. If you are interested, I'll bring some CDs of some of our favorites for you when we go to the reunion.

Dia- Interested? OF COURSE! Maybe we can get the proprietor of the establishment to play some on the PA and get that place hopping :) I'm looking forward to hearing/seeing them. Are they on iTunes? While I was in New Zealand, I looked into some of the "down under" blues bands. They love the blues down there. I picked up one CD of Darren Watson who is real good. I listen to it on a regular basis. I've been told that there are some very good blues bands in Europe, especially Germany. Never had the opportunity to travel there though.

O.k. I know I am probably getting carried away, but please allow me just one more video :)

Joan, you mentioned SRV. Joe Bonamassa's dad bought him a guitar when he was 5 years old. He has been playing it constantly ever since. Stevie Ray was his idol and he studied him extensively.
Sit back, tie your shoes on tight to keep your socks on and enjoy.....

That was fantastic...I listened to it twice! You have to feel sorry for the drummer, he really doesn't have a chance to show his talent.

Have you been to the annual Halloween party at the St. John's grange, with Too slim and the taildraggers? That is so much fun! There isn't much for lodging close by except a seedy old motel that looks like the setting for the old 'Psycho' movie.

I haven't been to St. John's party, but it sounds like it would be fun :) Does Norman Bates operate the Motel? I'll have to talk to Dave about it and maybe take it in this next Halloween.

Mead High School's Future There is talk about the old high school being closed. It is closed now as a school, but the district is going to use the building for maintenance shops, offices and meeting rooms. I was in Mead today for an appointment and afterwards stopped by the school and went into the office. I talked with the building director and she told me that the building will not be demolished at all in the foreseeable future. While there, I got a chance to walk down memory lane for the first time since graduation. I walked all the halls and into a several rooms. Surprisingly, it hasn't changed that much in all these years. I had my camera with me and snapped some photos. You can view them by clicking on 2009 Photos of Mead on the Home Page Menu. It was truly like walking back into time.......strange feeling.

I love Joe Bonamassa also. We saw him when he opened for Kenny Wayne Shepherd and BB King. I usually prefer a full band sound, so I didn't think I would be impressed by a guy playing alone (don't remember if he even had a drummer with him), but he can sure get soulful music out of his guitar! And how about that Kenny Wayne?

Dia, next time you see a headliner like that, please CALL ME! :-0))
That must have been a great evening :)

OK...I have to say it...I am quite shocked by all the drinking that was going on at Mead High School. Were you guys hiding it from me because you knew I was a goodie goodie girl? Or did you wait until senior year when I was in Redmond?

My only recollection of drunkenness there was when I went on a date with Fred Totzek. His parents were out, he drank himself right to the toilet, passed out, and I had to call my dad to come pick me up from a place I wasn't even supposed to be! But he was a year older...

I held out until about October at WSU. A guy took me to a party on the Snake River and spiked my OJ with vodka. By the time I figured it out, I was having a damn good time. Val McGee was at another party there with her new baby. Hope I didn't embarrass myself too badly, Val; however something about two guys walking a stumbling girl down the beach seems a bit off to me now ;-)

Do tell me about all the fun I missed in high school!

Sue Renner (Booth)

You REALLY didn't miss much Dia.....honestly. Looking back, there were times that staying home with a really good book would have been the wiser and safer thing to do. Luckily for us however, the partying was pretty innocent by todays' standards.

Dia-
Doing you mean like the fun we had when six of us finished off a case of beer on a school day while putting up the Mead Sr. High School sign on the Newport Highway? :)

That is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO funny....I'm sorry I missed that one!!!

For those that may be wondering, the new site upgrade will have different threads on the forum. No longer will all the post subjects be on one thread. Brad Switzer told me that it will be in about 4 weeks.

Ronna Jones (Snyder)

For those of you who don't know, Brad Switzer is NOT some long lost classmate that you can't remember. Our memories may be bad--but not THAT bad. Brad's the creator of Class Creator--the outfit that designed the template for this website that Danny Lowell was able to find for us. Brad Switzer's given us LOTS of technical support as we continue to add to this site, even talking us through a "cookies" nightmare with Boeing (right, Gary Wright?). Brad was on his cell phone while in heavy traffic. Now THAT'S technical support at its finest!

And.......... you could probably understand his English! Right? :)

Yup, no foreign-speaking tech support with Class Creator!

I just spoke to Mr Weishaar and invited him to the reunion. He sounded great and is interested in coming.

A few girls from the class of 69 started meeting for lunch several months ago, and with new people showing up on the website, we had a turnout of twelve people at the last lunch! We played musical chairs, moving around talking to everyone....our poor waiter! We sounded like a bunch of old birds on a telephone wire. We had so much fun that we've decided to make it a monthly outing, choosing different restaurants around Spokane, and meeting the first Saturday of every month at noon. We need to know who plans to attend at least a week before, so that we can arrange reservations. The next lunch is at TGI Fridays, April, Sat. the 4th, at noon. Please leave a message for Char Faoro, or Joan Lanning, and we'll add you to the reservation.

Joan, count me again. I agree that was so much fun and looking forward to doing it again. That poor waiter when we told him it was all seperate checks. Looking forward to it again. I know Melanie Walker sent me an e-mail and said she had asked to have the next Saturday we are doing lunch off and they gave her the ok, so I know she is planning on attending.
See you soon. Deanna Hawkins (Dee Dee Brooks)

Floyd Wilks called a few nights ago and said that he had found Gordon Popp! I contacted Gordie by phone, and he doesn't have a computer, but would love to hear from anyone by phone. He is a DAY sleeper, and asked that anyone who wants to contact him, do so after five in the afternoon. His phone number is 489-2378 (Spokane number). He would really appreciate the phone calls. Thanks

Joan, Thanks so much for the info on Gordy. He was one of the best friends in the school to everyone. Like I said to you with all the best intentions we want to stay in touch and with out knowing we let it slip away day by day, year by year. I will call him this week. Thanks again and thanks to Floyd.

Called Gordon and talked for about an hour. He is doing pretty good. His polio came back from child hood and he is in a wheelchair again. But he still has the Gordo charm and wit. He sounded great to talk with and wanted to know how everyone was doing. Would be great if anyone wanted to call he would like it very much. Just call in the mid afternoon or early evening. 489-2378

Thank you for your post Tom. I have had a few people contact me and wonder if he would remember them. So, you have confirmed for all of us that Gordy is still Gordy, a friend to all.
